Can your office provide legal representation for a real estate closing anywhere in Ontario?

Yes, our office routinely represents clients for properties located all over Ontario. A real estate lawyer works out of an office and doesn’t visit the property that you are buying or selling so it doesn’t matter where the law office is located as long as it is in Ontario. Our office also offers virtual video signing appointments so you can sign the closing documents from the comfort of your home. If you would like to meet us in person, we will be happy to welcome you to our Mississauga office to sign the closing documents.

In Ontario, can I purchase or sell a property without a lawyer?

No, it is not possible to complete a real estate purchase or sale closing without a lawyer.

What is the Land Transfer Tax?

When you buy a property, whether it is a house, condo, or land, anywhere in Ontario, the transaction is subject to the Ontario land transfer tax. The exact amount is calculated based on the purchase price. If you buy in the city of Toronto, the transaction is subject to the Ontario Land Transfer Tax and the Municipal Land Transfer Tax. For the remaining cities in Ontario, there is no Municipal Land Transfer Tax.
